OUR FESTIVE APPEAL: Just $100 keeps a child in school for a year
For the same price as this year's must-have toys, SeeBeyondBorders can help the most vulnerable children stay in school for another year. Help us reach more kids this Christmas with a quality education.
Just $100 this Christmas could help give a child the education they deserve...
For the poorest families in Cambodia, education is a luxury. By the age of 12, the most vulnerable children are likely to have dropped out of school to take up farming or factory work, just to earn a few extra dollars a week to help cover their family’s basic needs. The cruel irony is that for every extra year of education a child receives, they can expect an increase in their adult earnings by 10%.
Our Conditional Cash Payment Program identifies the children from the poorest households who are most at risk of dropping out. We provide the support they need to keep sending their children to school. These cash grants average just $100 per child per year.
What are your must-have gifts this year?
Both of these must-have gifts for kids in Australia cost around $100 in the shops. For the same cost, you could help support a child in Cambodia to stay in school this year.
This is Chhanrey, who we have been supporting with CCP since November 2015.
Like many people in this part of Cambodia, Chhanrey’s parents have gone to Thailand to try to earn a better living.
She now lives with her elderly grandparents, so Chhanrey used to have to work in the evenings packaging snacks to be sold at the market for a few dollars.
We’ve provided Chhanrey with a bicycle and a small cash sum to enable her to buy study materials.
“Thank you very much to SeeBeyondBorders for understanding my problems and helping me to commit to my studies. Now I’m not worried about walking to school and the money for buying books anymore. I promise to study to achieve my dream to become a nurse in the future.”
We gave out 191 cash grants and 10 bicycles to the most vulnerable families to help them continue sending their children to school. The attendance of the 191 students receiving support through our CCP program has increased from 80% to 95%, and most importantly, this support has significantly decreased their chances of dropping out of school.
Please help us continue to reach the most vulnerable children in Cambodia with a donation this Christmas. However you can help, we would be so grateful for your support.
