Join our team of teachers and assist in running primary level Maths workshops in Cambodia, for teachers from rural village schools. Our ‘Teach the Teacher’ programmes run for two weeks, during which we provide two 4 day workshops in two different parts of Cambodia, in conjunction with our Cambodian project partners.
We have been running these workshops twice a year since January 2010. We have had outstanding feedback from both our partner organizations and the Khmer teachers themselves. Originally this programme was run only in Battambang and Siem Reap, but due to its success we have been asked to extend the programme to include Kompong Cham and Ratanakiri provinces, where we will be working with VSO and KAPE.
In addition, in October of 2011 we will be introducing a mentor training programme for Khmer teachers identified as having potential to assist their peers. Mentor training is an essential component for the sustainability of the Maths training programme, providing in-school support for Khmer teachers.
Due to the ever increasing number of applications we receive, at this stage we are giving priority to experienced Primary trained teachers, as early grade Maths is our focus. However, since an important focus of the workshops is pedagogy, as well as actual content, we will also consider applications from Secondary trained teachers who can demonstrate excellent pedagogical skills in Maths and / or experience in delivering professional development workshops.
In line with requests from our Cambodian partner organizations, our longer term plan is to expand our programme to include Literacy, Personal Development and Health, and Integrated unit programmes, at which time we will also be actively recruiting Secondary teachers for those projects. At the present time however, we are keen to focus on building and further developing our Maths and mentoring programmes as excellent models to inform our future workshops in other subject areas.

On a recent trip to Cambodia it was a fantastic experience to see so many of the teachers using the teaching strategies and resources learnt at the ‘Teach the Teacher’ workshops, with great enthusiasm and success.
