In October 2011, a team of SeeBeyondBorders volunteer Australian teachers travelled to Kampong Cham and Banlung in Cambodia to undertake Teach the Teacher workshops for Khmer primary teachers from remote regions. These workshops were arranged in conjunction with the UK based group VSO, a leading independent international development organisation.
The workshops covered Level One of the ‘Teach the Teacher’ programme which focuses on fundamental Maths concepts and teaching methodology for Grades 1-3. All schools represented at the workshops received whole-class Maths resource packs to complement the material covered in the sessions.
The workshop costs involved transport, accommodation, meals and excursion fees for the Khmer teachers as well as the Maths resource packs for each school. The volunteer Australian teachers made a donation to the project and their their travel expenses were entirely self-funded.
