Jesuit Services Cambodia is an organisation dedicated to establishing reconciliation, peace and justice and the full human development of people hurt by war, oppression and exile, in Cambodia. SeeBeyondBorders has been greatly assisted by this organisation with many of its programmes. Its remarkable achievements as well as the dedication of its staff has been one of the main sources of inspiration behind our own tentative steps towards understanding what are sustainable ways to empower those living in poverty to achieve real change.
The Apostolic Prefecture of Battambang combines people of different faiths, cultures, nationalities and physical abilities and reaches out over an area that spans almost half the country of Cambodia, including the Cities of Battambang and Siem Reap as well as many others. SeeBeyondBorders relies heavily on the contacts and facilities that the Prefecture provides to welcome visitors and monitor projects.
Dhammayietra, Mongkol Borei is the name given to the annual peace marches or pilgrimages across Cambodia commemorating the first such journey undertaken in 1992. That was the year the United Nations sponsored a peace agreement between all factions which led to the first elections in a generation and the return to Cambodia of many who had been living in camps at the borders. Led by Maha Ghosananda dubbed "the Gandhi of Cambodia" the aim was to begin to restore hope and spirit to the Cambodian people. This organisation facilitates access for SeeBeyondBorders to communities learning to organise and develop themselves.
The Indochina Starfish Foundation (ISF) is focused on improving the lives of children in the cities of Cambodia through careful investment in support services, training and co-operation with others. SeeBeyondBorders supports ISF teachers in its workshop programme as well as including its football programme to which SBB recently delivered a large number of soccer uniforms, generously donated by Seaforth SC, Sydney.
Children's Future International's vision helps children achieve their human potential. Based in Battambang, CFI has opened a community education facility for children of families that need support in order to educate their children. CFI works with vulnerable children who are at high risk of continued neglect, abuse and exploitation. SeeBeyondBorders fully supports the mission and objectives of CFI and is looking to develop ways in which practical assistance can be provided as the school and centre gets established in the coming months.
